A solidarity market gardening cooperative will settle on 7 hectares in Prévalaye

Fruits and vegetables “made in Rennes”. In 2024, the Prévalaye should have a new urban farm. Already taken over by the La Basse-Cour guinguette and the PermaG’Rennes permaculture farm (in the process of being taken over), the wild site of Prévalaye will soon host a new urban agriculture activity. A time coveted by Stade Rennais for the project to extend its training center, these lands located a stone’s throw from the western ring road have been entrusted to the Terres solidaires project. Led by market gardener Victor Lipovac and the Cœurs Résistants association, this market gardening cooperative will have seven hectares for growing fruit and vegetables. The project is the winner of a call for projects launched by the city as part of its sustainable food plan.

First plantations in 2024

The cooperative will reserve part of its harvest for food aid, in order to offer the possibility to the most modest inhabitants of eating fruits and vegetables grown in short circuits and without pesticides. The winner wishes to move towards a system of “market gardening on living soil”. This agricultural movement aims to “reconstitute the natural cycle of soil fertility by specific technical itineraries, which are based in particular on the cessation of tillage and the supply of organic matter”, explains the municipality. The installation will begin in January 2024 “with the establishment of the irrigation network, the installation of greenhouses, the construction of the hangar or the purchase of materials necessary for production from the spring”, promises the City of reindeer.

Part of the harvest will be distributed to the beneficiaries of The Resistant Hearts Association. Founded in 2016, it counts among its volunteers a large majority of people in precarious situations, poverty, living or not on the street. Its beneficiaries will be able to participate in the design and maintenance of the market gardening operation.
