A snail operation this Wednesday to make the voice of the “forgotten of Ségur” heard

Snail operations are not really their credo. Yet this is the mode of action that employers in the social, medico-social and health sectors have decided to use to make themselves heard by the State. This Wednesday, at 9.30 a.m., these managers of structures that deal with the protection of children, the elderly, support for people with disabilities or social integration will leave from the north of Toulouse to join the prefecture, via the ring road.

For several months they have been mobilized to obtain a revaluation of the salary scales of their employees, that is to say no less than 785,000 people in France. “Forgotten” from Ségur, for several years their employees have lost their purchasing power, which galloping inflation has only reinforced.

Waiting for action from the government

“Before, some of the jobs in our branches were paid slightly above the minimum wage. Today, some indices of our convention are even lower than the SMIC. This is reflected in tensions over recruitment and a decline in the attractiveness of our sectors. We fear that this will result in the continuity of our missions and that we will no longer be able to carry them out, ”deplores Jean-Louis Losson, director general of the association for the safeguarding of children in Haute-Occitanie, also regional delegate. of the CNAPE, the national federation of associations which support and welcome children, adolescents and young adults in difficulty.

The structures are thus finding it increasingly difficult to recruit specialized educators, but also nurses and caregivers. They also face competition from other sectors with more attractive wages.

They are now waiting for a gesture from the government, thanks to support from communities and in particular from departmental councils, stakeholders in their missions. A national movement that will affect all of France this Wednesday.
