A second life for batteries – economy

The old, beige Fiat motorhome is still on the street in front of the Voltfang factory, in a dreary industrial area in Aachen. Three engineering students from RWTH Aachen once bought the car and wanted to equip it with solar cells and battery storage so they could have fun on vacation without worrying about the power supply. One of them, Roman Alberti, came up with the idea that old batteries from electric cars would be suitable as energy storage devices. A start-up grew from this idea: In 2020, Alberti and his motorhome colleagues Afshin Doostdar and David Oudsandji founded the company Voltfang.
