A retiree falls on the tracks, is run over by a train and escapes unharmed

She says she “was very lucky in her bad luck”. A 70-year-old retiree miraculously escaped unhurt after seeing a train pass over her. The accident occurred Tuesday afternoon at Kaiseraugst station, near Basel in Switzerland.

The septuagenarian, who uses an electric wheelchair, fell on the railway tracks shortly before the train arrived at the station. She thus found herself immobilized exactly halfway between the two rails. This allowed her to save her life, the police said, since the locomotive only slightly hit her due to its position.

Minor injuries

The retiree suffered some injuries caused mainly by the parts of her chair which turned into projectiles. However, she was hospitalized, as was a person who was on the platform. At this stage, the police rule out any voluntary intervention by a third party in the accident.

The accident caused disruption to rail traffic at Kaiseraugst station for several hours.
