A preliminary investigation opened against the organizer of the Bayman triathlon

The second edition which was held on September 30 in the bay of Mont-Saint-Michel was a success with 2,200 participants at the start of the race. But the Bayman triathlon is today in turmoil with the opening of a preliminary investigation targeting its creator and organizer, we learned from the Rennes public prosecutor’s office, confirming information from West France.

Following denunciations, justice is taking a close interest in expenses of around 140,000 euros borne by the Triathlon international du Mont-Saint-Michel association. In December 2022, this money would have been transferred to accounts “for the benefit of the Bayman company, chaired by the accused, and another participant”, underlines Philippe Astruc, public prosecutor of Rennes.

The functions of secretary exercised by the accused raise questions

The gendarmes of the Liffré brigade (Ille-et-Vilaine), in charge of the case, are also investigating the conditions of the election of the accused’s wife to the presidency of the association as well as ” the beginning and end of the functions of secretary exercised within the association by the person concerned and the duration and conditions for fixing his remuneration for this position. »

In a press release, relayed by West France, the public establishment of Mont-Saint-Michel reacted to the opening of a preliminary investigation, indicating that “it is up to justice to ultimately decide. » “We have always welcomed the idea of a major sporting event with interest, without being able to provide financial support,” continues the public establishment. The question is not to support intuitu personae this or that organizer, but rather to offer the public a unifying event every year at Mont Saint-Michel, in good conditions. »
