A Niort police officer injured after refusing to comply

A police officer on a motorcycle from the Niort motorized brigade (Deux-Sèvres) was injured on Wednesday after refusing to comply, hit by a motorist who fled, we learned from the prosecution and the police.

According to the first elements of the investigation, this agent was “hit by the motorist while he was getting off his motorcycle”, the Niort prosecutor’s office told AFP, confirming information from the daily The New Republic.

The national police clarified on X (formerly Twitter) that this vehicle was “in violation” and “refused to be checked”. The motorist then managed to flee.

The motorcyclist was taken to the hospital in stable condition, according to police. The prosecution mentioned injuries to the shoulder and pelvis, reporting “reassuring news” on Wednesday evening. An investigation was opened for “attempted murder of a person holding public authority” and entrusted to the Urban Security of the Niort police station.
