A new evacuation of a squat took place on Tuesday, in Montpellier (Hérault). This time, on Avenue de Toulouse, the police intervened in the early morning to dislodge 17 adults of Georgian nationality.

According to the services of the Hérault prefecture, six of them, who were in an irregular situation, were placed in administrative detention.

“This expulsion comes within the framework of the execution of a court decision served on the occupants by way of bailiff, after granting of the assistance of the police force by the prefect of Hérault”, indicates the prefecture.

Monday, in this squat, a search carried out in the context of a case of theft and concealment, had led to the arrest of “several individuals”. The evacuation of this Wednesday morning “took place without incident”, assures the prefecture.

Since his appointment, Hugues Moutouh, the prefect of Hérault, has expressed his desire to tackle the squats. “People who break into the property of others without authorization, either by break-in, deception or threat are in the most total illegality, especially when they are not in a regular situation with regard to the right of residence on the national territory ”, indicates the prefecture.
