The case could soon present itself in Illkirch-Graffenstaden. This rather quiet town next to Strasbourg experienced a slightly turbulent Halloween night. “There were a few firecrackers at the start and afterwards, we were able to limit the damage. But we were still called for a burned car,” says the mayor, Thibaud Phillips, who was in one of the police vehicles that evening.
He was able to witness the arrest of three young boys who could be behind the incident. “A witness formally identified them and they were taken into custody,” insists the elected Les Républicains (LR). “They are aged 13, 14 and 16. “For the people of Strasbourg, I sent a letter to the mayor (Jeanne Barseghian), whom I encourage to act. But for the other two, I contacted Habitat de l’Ill so that requests for termination of the families’ leases could be initiated. Now, it is up to the social landlord to refer the matter to the civil judge who is competent,” adds the councilor, convinced of his approach. “Residents are fed up with a minority disturbing the peace and quiet of a neighborhood. Something must be done after many years of laxity. It is up to families to exercise their parental responsibility. »
But aren’t these expulsions extreme solutions? “It’s a response that comes after a situation that has also become extreme,” retorts Thibaud Philipps, who had already taken exception last year by refusing to celebrate a wedding whose procession had degenerated. “There needs to be awareness, and that will only happen through this type of decision. Perhaps the procedure will take time, but it must be started one day. »
