A man suffering from psychiatric disorders arrested

The 38-year-old man admitted to being behind the death threats against Nicolas Sarkozy at the end of September. He was interned in psychiatry, a police source said on Tuesday, confirmed by the Paris prosecutor’s office.

“His psychiatric profile led the expert to consider that his discernment was abolished at the time of the facts, and his state incompatible with police custody. He was therefore admitted to the psychiatric infirmary of the police headquarters,” said the Paris prosecutor’s office, confirming information from France Info.

“Let them die”

According to the judicial source, he was arrested on September 21. The prosecution opened an investigation on September 20 for repeated death threats against Nicolas Sarkozy and his son Jean, after a complaint filed through the former president’s security chief. The complaint denounced, according to Actu 17, a threatening phone call made on Sunday September 17 to Nicolas Sarkozy’s sister. A stranger reportedly told him “to wish for the death of Nicolas and Jean Sarkozy as soon as possible.” Let them die.”

The prosecution did not confirm the content of the threatening remarks. The former head of state (2007-2012), aged 68, denounces more generally “harassment” against him, while two trials await him in France in November and in 2025.
