A man shot dead in the middle of the street in Alès

A 23-year-old man was shot and killed Monday evening in Alès (Gard), a priori with a hunting weapon, we learned on Tuesday from police sources. The young man was hit by shots “probably from a hunting weapon, caliber 12”, around 9:30 p.m. in the sensitive district of Près-Saint-Jean d’Alès, a police source told AFP. The victim, shot in the head, died shortly after being taken to hospital, the same source said.

In the neighborhood, a gathering of dozens of people took place on Monday after the tragedy, police said. The investigation was entrusted to the regional judicial police service of Montpellier.

According to the Alès prosecutor’s office, contacted by AFP, it was gunshots in the neighborhood that alerted residents on Monday evening, “at a time when it was raining a lot”. When the police arrived on the scene, the victim had already been taken to the hospital and the situation was very calm, added the prosecution.
