a man arrested with a submachine gun in the street in Rennes

The inhabitants of the Bourg L’Évêque district in Rennes were panicked Tuesday evening when they saw a man walking in the middle of the street with a weapon of war, we learned on Thursday. A team from the anti-crime squad immediately went there to arrest the individual, aged 45 and already well known to the courts. The weapon in his possession was finally in parts. This is a MAS submachine gun dating from 1938.

Unable to reassemble it, the forty-something explained during his hearing that he had found the weapon in a cellar in Nantes and that he intended to resell it. If the pistol was not loaded, it was however in perfect working order according to the police officers who carried out checks. The individual was referred this Thursday afternoon to the Rennes prosecutor’s office for illegal transport of a category A weapon.
