A label guarantees that a book was indeed written by a human

This article was indeed written by a human… But the field of publishing is less virtuous, since certain books are now written by generative artificial intelligence software.

Label Création humaine, a company associated with the self-publishing house Librinovatherefore decided to certify that a work – written, audiovisual or musical – “comes from a human brain”.

Offered to Librinova authors from mid-January, this service, which aims to mobilize other publishers, will allow the label to be affixed to the cover of a book… if its author so wishes.

The initiative is a reaction to the growing number of self-published books (notably on Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing platform) and written by AI software. Librinova and Label Création humaine estimate that “several thousand” can already be found in France.

Generative errors

Written in record time, these works often contain serious factual errors, as generative AI regularly makes.

The family of a Frenchman who participated in the landing of June 6, 1944 had thus denounced, in December 2023, the publication, on Amazon and only two days after the death of the veteran, of a biography riddled with untruths ( she claimed, for example, that he had been a prisoner in Germany… which was never the case).

Other titles are singled out by Amazon customers, such as Stoicism: the 10 secrets of ancient spirituality to better live modern lifeby a certain Aurèle Martin, in which we find a false quotation from the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius urging us to “cultivate a healthy relationship with screens”.
