The striker was brilliant on Saturday evening in the French team jersey, scoring three goals and three assists during the Blues’ historic victory against Gibraltar at the Allianz Riviera (14-0) in Nice. A victory which ensures first place in group B, and to be seeded for the next Euro 2024. And which allows Kylian Mbappé to already reach 300 career goals at only 24, thanks in particular to a magnificent lob of 40 meters.
“It’s only idiots who don’t change”
The Blues and PSG striker comes within five goals of the total of Thierry Henry (51 goals) and his teammate Olivier Giroud (56 goals) and author of a double on Saturday evening. But Mbappé also delivered three assists, with a captain’s role in which he must “above all think of others”.
Mbappé also looked back on the evolution of his game since captaincy, speaking to TF1: “The armband forces you to change. Even if you don’t want to change. You’re not meant to be captain if you don’t change. As they say, it’s only idiots who don’t change. When I was not captain, of course there was a slightly more individualistic vision of my match, of my score. Now, when you are captain you must think of others first and foremost. What you do, we know you know how to do it. The objective is to try to come together so that the team becomes one and we achieve results like today,” he explained.
