A dark weekend in the Ariège mountains this week-end. Two people, a hiker and a parachutist, were killed on Sunday.
The hiker, aged 56 according to The Midi Dispatch, fell several hundred meters in the Montcalm area in front of two witnesses who immediately gave the alert at 2:30 p.m. When the doctor from the Ariège valleys hospital center and the helicopter from the mountain unit of the national gendarmerie arrived, the emergency services could only confirm the death of the victim. According to our colleagues, the fifties was hiking alone in Ariège. An investigation has been opened to find out the circumstances of the fatal fall.
During the same day, near Pamiers, a trainee from the Para-Club de l’Ariège died following a parachute jump, again according to The Midi Dispatch. For now, the circumstances of this tragedy remain unknown. The victim, originally from Monaco, was only 31 years old.
