a forty-something suspected of having killed his wife in a village in the Aude

A 35-year-old mother was found dead in the night from Sunday to Monday, in her house in Portel-des-Corbières (Aude). Her husband is suspected of having killed her, AFP learned Tuesday from the mayor of this village of 1,300 inhabitants.

“They are a couple who have never made waves. We do not know what could have happened ”, told AFP the mayor of the town, Bruno Texier (without label). The husband was arrested a few hours later by the gendarmes, while he was walking through the village. This 40-year-old winemaker was “hospitalized in a psychiatric emergency room” in Narbonne, about fifteen kilometers away, explained the mayor.

“Everyone is shocked”

The couple’s two children, a 10-year-old boy and an 8-year-old girl, were taken in by the grandparents. In Portel-des-Corbières, relates the mayor, “everyone is shocked” by the death of this 35-year-old woman, who was a pharmacy assistant.

Joined by AFP and by 20 minutes Tuesday, the Narbonne prosecutor’s office did not wish to communicate on the case, specifying that a press conference would take place on Friday.
