A fire started from a house destroys about fifteen hectares of forest

A thick smoke visible from some high points to Alsace. A fire broke out on Tuesday in a wooded area in Bois-le-Champ, in the Vosges, and destroyed around fifteen hectares in the early evening, we learned from the prefecture.

“The fire started in a house on the edge of departmental 420 and spread to a coniferous forest,” she said in a press release. “Currently, fifteen hectares of forest have already been burned. The fire is spreading upwards in a slope in a south-west direction, as well as on the flanks. There is no victim. »

The prefecture had announced in the afternoon a “flame front of 100 meters”. “A hundred firefighters from the Vosges are hard at work, the solidarity of neighboring departments has shown itself,” added the same source, adding that firefighters from Bas-Rhin and Moselle had come to lend a hand.

Conditions conducive to fires

Forest fires are not frequent in Lorraine, but the Meurthe-et-Moselle, neighboring department of the Vosges, as well as the Meuse were classified, Monday, in orange vigilance for fires, corresponding to a “high” risk of fires . The Vosges were on their side in yellow vigilance.

Due to the particularly dry conditions in recent weeks and the wind, a first fire broke out last week near Saint-Baslemont (Vosges) and burned six hectares. On Sunday, a resumption of fire this time burned one hectare in this same town. The rapid intervention of firefighters limited the damage.

Bois-le-Champ is a rural town of just over 100 inhabitants, whose surroundings are particularly wooded and sometimes difficult to access.
