A burning lorry trailer disrupted traffic on the A9 from Perpignan to Pollestres all day

It is a fire which fortunately did not cause any casualties, but which caused major disturbances this Saturday, May 6 on the A9 motorway towards Spain. Around 8:30 a.m., the trailer of a heavy goods vehicle carrying 24 tons of compacted cardboard caught fire at the junction of Pollestres and Ponteilla (Pyrénées-Orientales) causing traffic jams for several kilometers upstream, going up to the Saint Pierre clinic and the penetrating north of Perpignan, but also on the RD900 from the Arcades roundabout to the ring road south of Perpignan to Villemolaque.

Before the fire spreads, the driver was able to unhitch the trailer and thus save his truck.

Firefighters mobilized for most of the day

If the fire was quickly extinguished following the intervention of the firefighters, the clearing operations lasted all day. Until 5:45 p.m., two lanes out of the three remained closed to traffic to evacuate what was left of the burnt paper. The carcass of the trailer was evacuated a little later, once again requiring traffic to be limited on this axis.
