Hansi Flick commented on Timo Werner’s absence for the upcoming World Cup. The national coach laments a “severe loss”.
The news that Timo Werner will miss the World Cup came as a surprise despite the early substitution. In the meantime, Hansi Flick has also commented on the striker’s failure.
Timo Werner only played 19 minutes in the Champions League on Wednesday evening. After a foul on him, having already held his ankle, he still tried to play on. Then the certainty: He had to be replaced.
After the game, Marco Rose gave a cautious all-clear. It will probably be about “nothing wild”, according to the Leipzig coach.
The more detailed examinations on Thursday accordingly caused a shock: Werner was diagnosed with a syndesmosis ligament tear. He is therefore out for the rest of the calendar year – and thus also misses the World Cup.
Failure for Werner “very difficult to cope with” – Flick laments “severe loss”
“It’s very difficult for me to take! I’ll be out for the next few weeks, I’ll miss the World Cup and unfortunately I can only support RB Leipzig and the DFB team from the couch. Thanks for all your messages!” He tweeted late in the afternoon (via picture). Nothing will come of participating in his second World Cup.
That is of course primarily for him, but also for the national team an unexpected setback. After all, he is scheduled to attack under Hansi Flick and has been in good form in recent weeks.
In the meantime, the national coach has also commented on Werner’s failure: “This news is very bitter. I’m very sorry for Timo personally because he missed the World Cup, which he really wanted to play. But Timo’s failure is above all for the team great loss. We all wish him a speedy recovery.”
The 26-year-old will have to follow the performances of the DFB-Elf from the couch at home.
