A baguette-scented stamp to pay homage to bread

Starting this Friday, La Poste is putting on sale a stamp bearing the image of French baguettes, which has the particularity… of smelling like bread! Unveiled on Thursday, Saint Honoré’s Day, the patron saint of bakers, at the Philaposte printing house in Boulazac (Dordogne), this new stamp has a print run of 594,000 copies.

Sold at 1.96 euros each, it represents a baguette decorated with a blue, white and red ribbon and has the particularity of smelling of “bakery scents”, according to the website of the Parisian boutique Le Carré d’encre, which markets it.

“Encapsulated odor”

“This smell is encapsulated. We buy it from another manufacturer. And the difficulty for us is to deposit this ink without breaking the capsules, so that the smell can then be restored by the customer by rubbing on the stamp,” described Damien Lavaud, printer at Philaposte, quoted by France Blue.
