a 17-year-old teenager dies after refusing to obey on a scooter, two investigations opened

The driver of the scooter, also 17 years old, was still hospitalized on Saturday evening, with his life threatening. The other 17-year-old died this Saturday morning.

A 17-year-old teenager died in hospital this Saturday, December 9 in the morning, following a scooter accident, which took place Friday evening in Chelles (Seine-et-Marne) after the driver of the two- wheels refused to stop on police orders, the Meaux prosecutor’s office confirmed to BFMTV.

Two flagrant investigations were opened by the Meaux public prosecutor’s office, one on the charge of “refusal to comply” entrusted to the Chelles-Villeparisis police station. The other of the counts of “homicide and involuntary injuries” entrusted to the General Inspectorate of the National Police (Igpn) of Paris.

A chase over more than 2 kilometers

On December 8, around 11 p.m., the anti-crime brigade (BAC) of Neuilly-sur-Marne (Seine-Saint-Denis) wanted to check a scooter that had just run a red light. After activating the flashing lights, the police were unable to get the driver to stop. A passenger is also present on the two-wheeler.

A chase began over approximately two kilometers, between the towns of Neuilly sur Marne and Chelles (Seine-et-Marne). Arriving in Chelles, the scooter driver tried to avoid vehicles stopped at a red light and changed lanes in front of the police vehicle. That’s when the driver loses control and the scooter crashes into a stationary car.

The two individuals on the two-wheeler, two young men aged 17, found themselves trapped under the car. One of the two – probably the passenger – lost his helmet under the violence of the impact. The scooter landed a few meters further on, after hitting the stationary vehicle.

Scooter driver seriously injured

The two young men were then transported to hospital. The passenger was pronounced dead on the morning of December 9. The driver’s vital prognosis remains compromised this Saturday evening.

According to the first elements of the investigation, in particular the use of video surveillance in the town of Chelles and the recording of a police officer’s pedestrian camera, there would have been no contact between the police car and the two wheels.
