A 16-year-old boy found hanged, suspicion of school bullying

His lifeless body was found Wednesday morning at his home in La Roche-sur-Yon, in Vendée. Enrolled at the Pierre Mendès-France high school, this 16-year-old teenager killed himself by hanging. According to the first elements of the investigation revealed by The Parisian, the young man would have left a letter to his loved ones, where he expressed his discomfort. Investigators are looking in particular at a potential phenomenon of school harassment of which the teenager could have been the victim. Originally from Reunion, where his mother and sister are based, the young victim had already changed establishments recently due to harassment linked to his homosexuality, reveals The Parisian.

Contacted by L’Info.re, the young man’s mother and sister announced their desire to file a complaint. A psychological unit was opened within the La Roche-sur-Yon school following the student’s suicide.

From Thursday, declared as the National Day to Combat Bullying at School, all students from CE2 onwards are invited to answer a questionnaire with the aim of fighting against the phenomena of bullying at school. “We really need a collective start on this subject. We see, there are still too many adults who are not aware of the extent, of the impact of harassment on our young people,” underlined Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne during a trip to the Paris region.
