Two heavy goods vehicle accidents seriously disrupted traffic on the A9 and A54 motorways this Friday morning in Hérault and Gard, east of Occitanie.
The first accident took place around 6:15 a.m., on the A54 motorway, at the junction with the A9 motorway, near Nîmes (Gard), in the direction of Montpellier (Hérault). A truck carrying bags of plastic balls overturned, blocking all of the lanes, Vinci Autoroutes said, around 7:40 a.m.
A second accident in Béziers
While waiting for emergency services and clearing teams to intervene, measures have been put in place in the sector: on the A54, exit is compulsory and entry is prohibited at Nîmes-Centre (n° 1), and on Entry to the A9 is prohibited at Nîmes-Ouest (n° 25). Furthermore, on the A54, it is recommended to exit and not recommended to enter Garons (n° 2).
A second accident took place around 8:20 a.m., after the Béziers-Ouest entrance (n° 36), towards Lyon: according to the firefighters, a refrigerated truck crossed the central reservation and ended up on the opposite roadway. A diesel leak was contained. While waiting for rescue and clearing operations to take place, it is advisable to leave and not recommended to enter Béziers-Sud (n° 64).
