“To make people happy”, Dominique delivers songs at home

Since he asserted his rights to retirement, Dominique Boudet opened his small delivery business. But when he crosses Montpellier (Hérault), this sprightly septuagenarian does not carry a large insulated bag on his back. He has his guitar slung over his shoulder. Because “Domi” does not deliver pizzas or sushi, but… songs!

To celebrate a birthday, a reunion, a wedding (or even a breakup!), this singing madman arrives at your home with his pockets full of melodies. To “offer a song”, it’s 30 euros. But Dominique Boudet can even stay a little longer, or bring a box of chocolates, wine or flowers in the case of his guitar.

“I believe in the virtues of song”

“This idea has been in my head for a long time,” he confides to 20 minutes. Then I saw, two years ago, the film If we sang, which evokes, precisely, a group of friends who launched this concept. I said to myself “Damn it, that’s the idea I had!” I started. I believe in the virtues of song, to make people happy. »

This Montpellier troubadour can also offer songs on video. On his site (here), he listed the countless pieces of his repertoire. Salvatore Adamo, the idol of his 15 years, Graeme Allwright, Georges Brassens, Renaud, Boby Lapointe… But he remains, he says, open. “I continue, regularly, to learn songs, and to question myself, he smiles. Because we are often marked by certain artists, we always sing the same things, and sometimes we miss a bit of what is being done elsewhere. »

“I had to sing my very first cry! »

Since childhood, Dominique Boudet sings evening and morning. “I had to sing while pushing my very first cry, he laughs. When I was a scout, I animated the vigils with my songs. The song has always been part of me! And even when he married the profession of restaurateur, almost 40 years ago, with the Cotton Pub, then the Jogging and the Trinque Fougasse, he always kept a small corner of the stage, and invited artists, or simply amateurs, to push the song. “I immediately wanted to put music in these establishments! First with the Cotton Pub. It quickly became Montpellier’s jazz venue, at a time when there was none of that,” he confides.

Today that he has left the keys to his high places of gastronomy to his son, “I can devote myself more to this passion, to sing… And to make people sing! », Notes Dominique Boudet. “Often, moreover, we don’t ask people to sing. Well, that’s always been my thing. Sing, and make people sing! When he is not delivering songs to strangers, Dominique Boudet also leads a choir, and also performs regularly in nursing homes. And every Tuesday evening, at the O’Petit Trinque Fougasse, there are evenings mixing wine and music. “The song should be reimbursed by Social Security! he laughs. So, are we getting a Brassens delivered tonight?
