After the French announcement that they would support Ukraine with reconnaissance tanks, SPD leader Saskia Esken kept a low profile on the question of supplying German battle tanks. “The German government and the German Chancellor are always in close coordination with their partners, with friends – especially with the Americans, of course,” says Esken in the RLT / ntv program “Frühstart”. “We have supported Ukraine with arms deliveries from the start, and we will continue to do so in the future for as long as it is necessary and also in accordance with military developments and the needs.” The Chancellor is “in close talks with special partners and friends”, Esken repeats when asked. “And that will continue to be the case, and then we will make decisions accordingly.”
