90 Bavarian cities take part in “Earth Hour” – Bavaria

Lights out for climate protection – more than 90 Bavarian cities and communities are already taking part in the “Earth Hour” this year. The nature conservation organization WWF announced in Berlin on Wednesday that they will switch off the lighting at sights, town halls and public facilities for one hour on March 23rd. In Munich, for example, the spotlights at the Frauenkirche, the town hall and the Siegesengel are switched off from 8.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m., as well as in numerous buildings and churches in Nuremberg and Augsburg as well as in many other cities. So far, 465 municipalities and cities nationwide have agreed.

The aim of the “Earth Hour” is to show that people are working together for more climate protection. “We are calling for a policy that broadens climate protection, supports it financially and anchors it in the national budget in the long term,” says Viviane Raddatz, head of climate change at WWF Germany, according to the statement. The “Earth Hour” is taking place for the 18th time this year. 192 countries are taking part.
