The new “First Lady of Vine Juice” is crowned in a shower of golden confetti. Your goal? She wants to increase the status of German wine abroad. Currently an eighth of the crop is exported.
The winner covered her face with her hands and could hardly believe her success: Eva Brockmann from the Franconian wine-growing region is the 75th German Wine Queen.
The 24-year-old sat down in an exciting final on Friday evening Neustadt (Palatinate) against four competitors from Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Hesse. “I feel pure joy, pure emotion,” said the studied oenologist to the German Press Agency after the golden confetti shower. She still can’t believe the victory. As wine queen, she now represents around 15,000 winemakers in her anniversary year.
Numerous dates also abroad
As her fan base cheered, the new “First Lady of Vine Juice” accepted the queen crown from her predecessor Katrin Lang from the Baden growing region with a broad smile. In the name of the vine, Brockmann now attends numerous appointments abroad. “I would like to further increase the visibility and status of German wine in the world,” emphasized the temporary monarch and waved in all directions. The candidates were a good team. “Everyone deserves it.” The last time the winner came from Franconia was in 2008.
In front of around 700 guests in the hall building, a jury and the audience chose Lea Baßler (23, Palatinate wine region) and Jessica Himmelsbach (28, Baden wine region) as wine princesses. Katja Föhr (21, Rheingau) and Sarah Röhl (23, Moselle) lost in the fight for the crown.
The five candidates had to, among other things, identify types of wine during a blind tasting and demonstrate quick-wittedness.
The respective fan base frenetically cheered on their favorite. “Eva 4 Queen” was written on one poster, others wore T-shirts with Himmelsbach’s likeness. Numerous flags were waved.

The German Wine Queen has been promoting the industry since 1949. Until 1999, the conditions were that candidates had to be single and come from a winemaking family. There are a total of 13 wine-growing regions in Germany, the largest being Rheinhessen off the Palatinate. Around an eighth of the wine grown in Germany is exported; last year this was 118 million liters. The largest revenues were achieved in the USA as well as in Norway and the Netherlands.
The previous incumbent, Katrin Lang, said goodbye in Neustadt with noticeable emotion. “There’s a lot left – great encounters with people who were enthusiastic about the cultural heritage of German wine. On trips to Hong Kong and New York you were able to experience the appreciation that German wine enjoys on the other side of the world,” said the 24-year-old. year olds.
