The events took place Tuesday morning, around 4 a.m., in a building in Kalliste Park, an impoverished city in the northern districts of Marseille. “There was a fire in an apartment on the 2nd floor in an R + 7 building (ground floor plus seven floors), a 7-year-old child died,” indicated the Marseille firefighters.
“There are other victims,” added the spokesperson for the firefighters on site, without being able to give the precise toll at this stage, nor the causes of the fire. According to Provence, at least four other people have been rescued and are in absolute emergency.
The police also confirmed the fire in this building. An investigation was opened to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.
