In an interview, Norbert Göttler, district home attendant for Upper Bavaria, talks about the effects that the municipal area reform had on the district of Dachau 50 years ago – and what could have gone better.

Norbert Göttler, 63, was not involved with the Bavarian regional reform, which was officially carried out from 1972 to 1979, for his job – he has been the district home caretaker of Upper Bavaria for twelve years now. As a native of Prittlbach, he experienced the consequences of this shift in boundaries as a 13-year-old boy. A conversation about hostile villages, centralization and the relevance of a common district identity.
