49 French people and their families evacuated on board the second flight to Qatar

Despite the departure of the Americans from Afghanistan at the end of August, two evacuation flights took place Thursday and Friday to Qatar. On board the second connecting Kabul to Doha this Friday, forty-nine French nationals and members of their families. The French Foreign Ministry thanked the Qatari authorities in a statement for their “decisive help”.

These nationals will then be brought back to Paris – at Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle airport – on a flight chartered by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The French government remains “fully mobilized to ensure new evacuations as soon as possible” of nationals who remain in place or of Afghans threatened by the Taliban, added the Quai d’Orsay.

Already Thursday, “some 113” people had been able to evacuate from Kabul. American, Canadian, German and Ukrainian nationals had also landed at Hamad International Airport in Doha, Qatar. More than 120,000 people have fled Afghanistan since the sudden return to power of the Taliban in mid-August.
