“42% of new exhibitors, that has some surprises in store for us”, underlines an expert

Curtain up on the Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas! After two editions canceled or forced by the pandemic due to Covid-19, the largest electronics fair in the world welcomes from January 5 to 8 3,000 exhibitors, including 170 representatives of French Tech. What major trends will assert themselves there? What should we expect, or even hope for, from this CES? Before the doors open, 20 minutes interviewed Florent Roulier, Digital Business Manager at nijiconsulting company, design and technological implementation, at the forefront of major technological developments.

Innovation, in which areas are you expecting this year?

All eyes will once again be on transport and mobility because they are among the most innovative sectors. The CES has become over the years the largest auto show in the United States, if not the world! Because the car that has become electric is now consumed like a consumer electronics product: screens everywhere, advancedinfotainmentAI and OS updates like for an iPhone…

But innovation is also very present in sectors that traditionally make less ink flow: health for example. The technological innovation of the CES presents each year impressive products in the world of health, coming to replace the medicinal approaches (the American Abbott presents new products this year to alleviate chronic diseases: Proclaim Plus spinal cord stimulation (SCS system), and coming to fill the shortage of health personnel.

After years without any real technological breakthrough, can the CES in Las Vegas still surprise?

Technological innovation has become unbridled for several decades, and it is true that some players are no longer waiting for CES to announce their novelties. Nevertheless, technological breakthroughs continue to appear at CES. This was the case, for example, last year with the car that changes color in real time from BMW (iX Flow) or autonomous tractors from the American John Deere (8R). This year again, the CES should bring its share of novelties, with new concept cars (we expect a lot from Sony), novelties for the general public (the keynote from Samsung at CES always has at least one major novelty in store), or even innovations around the connected home (with the new “ matter » supported by the biggest players, from Apple to Google). In addition, CES organizers announce that 42% of exhibitors are newcomers to the event, which means we have a lot of surprises in store!

Is SWH compatible with current energy and environmental issues?

The CES presents a paradox: it takes place in one of the least eco-responsible cities in the world (Las Vegas, city of hotels, swimming pools and neon lights in the middle of the desert), and forces many journalists and experts to have to travel by plane to get there. The digital version of this room is not at all optimized, even impractical, and prevents you from taking advantage of the room remotely. However, the CES is really captivating because each year it concentrates innovations that are a reflection of their time. And certainly the theme sustainable (sustainable) which had already gained momentum last year (we remember the cotton batteries of pjp eye ltdor bosch forest fire detector – forest fires which, it should be remembered, are responsible for 20% of CO2 emissions) will occupy a considerable place at this show this year. And it is perhaps, finally, thanks to the CES, to its incomparable concentration of international technological novelties, and to the massive presence of the media on this event, that a technological revolution capable of changing the world will take off.
