400 kilos of firework mortars seized in Paris

This is a big catch for the police. A stock of 400 kg of firework mortars was seized Tuesday evening in Paris, according to a police source quoted by AFP, and this, a few days after the death of Nahel, which led to a revolt throughout the country.

A tweet from the police headquarters announced on Tuesday evening the taking of “300 kilograms of fireworks mortars discovered in the trunk of a vehicle”, before the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, confirmed this Wednesday morning the few 400kg.

The boxes were loaded with “Roman candles” (cardboard or metal tubes loaded with luminous projectiles) of the “Jorge” brand, a Polish company which dominates the market, according to the photos released by the PP, specifying that “the checks continue” .

An increase in seizures

In 2022, customs seizures of firework mortars and other pyrotechnic materials reached 1,578 kg of goods, for 60 findings. In 2021 and 2020, seizures were 345 kg and 146 kg respectively.

These fireworks, available over the counter, have been diverted from their use for several years and used for illegal purposes, particularly in the context of attacks directed against the police, buildings, vehicles or even against other criminal groups, according to a recent note from the General Directorate of Customs.
