Schalke crisis widens – Elversberg scores in Kiel

Crisis at Schalke, upward trend at Hertha. Kiel missed out on a promotion place in the 2nd Bundesliga.

The The crisis at FC Schalke 04 is becoming increasingly serious. After the 1:2 (0:1) defeat in the prestigious duel between the two Bundesliga relegated teams against Hertha BSC, the Revierclub is stuck in the bottom of the table in the 2nd Bundesliga and will soon present a new head coach.

The series of failures continued under interim coach Matthias Kreutzer. Schalke have only won one of their last seven games and have recently suffered three defeats in a row.

The Berliners, on the other hand, confirmed their improvement in form and have worked their way forward with their fourth win from the last six games. The goals for the guests were scored by Smail Prevljak (41st minute) and Fabian Reese (51st). Yusuf Kabadayi (80th) scored for Schalke.

Elversberg scores in Kiel

Newcomer SV Elversberg caused the next surprise with the 1:1 (1:1) draw at Holstein Kiel. The Saarlanders, who had been undefeated for five games, gained a point thanks to Luca Schnellbacher’s goal in the 70th minute, after the hosts had taken the lead thanks to Timo Becker’s goal (44th). As a result, the Kiel team missed the jump to second place.

After a mixed start to the season, SC Paderborn secured themselves in the top half of the table with their second away win. The East Westphalia team won 3-1 (2-1) at bottom club Eintracht Braunschweig. Mattes Hansen (11th), Raphael Obermair (27th) and Filip Bilbija (90th + 6) scored for the guests, who will face league leaders FC St. Pauli on the next matchday. Robert Ivanov (41st) scored the next goal for Braunschweig.
