Three promotion aspirants celebrated home victories at the end of the 23rd matchday. This makes the 2nd Bundesliga even more exciting.

Hamburger SV won on the new coach’s debut Steffen Baumgart, SpVgg Greuther Fürth after being outnumbered for almost an hour in the Franconian derby and Fortuna Düsseldorf with a dream goal against Hansa Rostock: three home wins at the end of the 23rd matchday made the promotion race in the 2nd Bundesliga exciting.

In the first game under Baumgart, HSV won 1-0 (0-0) against newly promoted SV Elversberg and moved within one point of second-placed Holstein Kiel with 41 points. Fürth, on the other hand, is three points behind Hamburg in fourth place after the 2:1 (1:1) in the derby against 1. FC Nürnberg. Cup semi-finalists Düsseldorf are another two points behind after the 2-0 (2-0) win against Hansa Rostock.

Kiel lost the top game against the sovereign league leaders FC St. Pauli (48) 3-4 on Friday. The loser of the match day is Hannover 96 (37), who, as the best team in the second half of the season, suffered a 0-1 defeat at bottom team VfL Osnabrück on Saturday.

Königsdörffer shoots HSV to victory

In Hamburg, the hosts had a hard time against the tough newcomers in the first half. After the substitution, Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer scored (53′).

In Fürth, Sebastian Andersson gave the club an early lead (8th). After the equalizer by Armindo Sieb (27th), Nuremberg found themselves outnumbered in the 34th minute due to Jens Castrop’s yellow-red card. Fürth took advantage of this again through Sieb (57th).

In Düsseldorf, Felix Klaus took the lead with a great volley shot from the outside of the foot (16th), Ao Tanaka quickly followed up (18th).
