After the 0:2 in Düsseldorf, HSV coach Baumgart announced clearer communication. He sees his new team as still far removed from his footballing ideas.

Steffen Baumgart still sees a lot of work ahead of him as the new HSV coach. After Hamburger SV’s second defeat in a row under his leadership, Baumgart announced more direct communication in dealing with his players. “I have to be more clear,” said Baumgart on Sky after the second division soccer team’s 0:2 (0:1) defeat at Fortuna Düsseldorf.

“I think I have to make it clear that there is a direction. And I haven’t made that clear enough from my point of view. That’s why we lost the last two games. So it’s my responsibility – and I accept it too,” said Baumgart further.

Three games and only one win

The 52-year-old took over the third-place team in the second division at the end of February and has only won one game in three games since then. “We are far away from how we want to play. There is a lot that we have to change,” the former 1. FC Köln coach continued.

Baumgart particularly criticized the fact that his players didn’t stick to his instructions: “Just implement what was clearly discussed beforehand.”

After the deserved defeat against their direct competitor, HSV is threatened with falling out of relegation place at the weekend. For five years, Hamburg has been trying to get back into the Bundesliga with ever-increasing investments. However, Baumgart didn’t want to hear about too much pressure to finally get promoted: “What we’re playing at the moment has nothing to do with the fact that we want to get promoted.”
