29 men in the lead before the two final climbs… Pogacar still weakened… Follow the 16th stage with us

91km : The poor AG2R is really bad luck, there are only three left on this Tour… Fortunately Bob Jungels saved the day by winning in the Alps.

93km : Also note that we left a little lighter this morning in the peloton. The French Mikaël Chérel and Aurélien Paret-Peintre, as well as Max Walscheid tested positive for Covid and had to give up. Lennard Kamna, ill, did not leave either. The German was one of the great animators of this Tour, on the route de la Planche and the Jalabert climb in Mende in particular.

96km : The funny little scene of this beginning of stage. Van Aert thought to take his cushy points for the green jersey but it was without counting on Nils Eekhoff, who passed him (no one knows why). The Belgian did not fail to ask him in stride.

99km : The peloton is quietly led by the Jumbo-Visma of the yellow jersey Jonas Vingegaard. Bad news on the other hand for Tadej Pogacar, Marc Soler is far behind everyone, not well at all today the Spaniard. He is ill, and currently at the level of the medical car. It doesn’t feel good at all for the rest of the stage.

101km : All names are here if you want to scroll down. We also find Tony Gallopin, Maxime Bouet, Cyril Barthe, Olivier Le Gac, Mathieu Burgaudeau on the French side.

103km : While we have just passed the intermediate sprint of Lavelanet (cc Fabien Barthez), they are 29 in the lead, including some sizes > The van Aert green jersey, the polka dot jersey Geschke, Vlasov, Teuns, Madouas, Powless, Caruso…

2:29 p.m .: Let’s go!

We are launching this live, just over 100 km from the finish. A nice breakaway has (obviously) started, we’ll see it all together.

9:30 a.m.: Will you take a little reading to wait?

Obviously… I offer you this paper on the heat wave that has been hitting the Tour in recent days, as in the rest of France. Runners really fear heatstroke. What can we imagine for the future, when the summers are not going to be refreshing for the next few years?

9:30 a.m.: The stakes of the race

Already the last week of the Tour! After a day of rest under the dodger of Carcassonne, the riders set off this Tuesday towards Foix. This 16th stage marks the entry into the Pyrenean massif, the scene of the last hopes for the fighters as well as for the aspirants to the final victory. No big passes (yet) on the menu today, but the Port de Lers and the Mur de Péguère in the last 60 kilometers which offer good percentages (up to 18% in the second climb!) to start the battle. Regarding the fight for the yellow jersey, we would put a small piece on a drum beating descent towards Foix to try to put the Jumbo in difficulty.

>> We’ll meet you around 2:30 p.m. to follow this 16th stage with us…
