26-year-old man charged after beating his mother with a hammer

Accused of a sordid murder on his own mother. A 26-year-old man was indicted for the murder on Tuesday in Reims of his mother, whom he allegedly hit several times with a knife and hammer, then tried to behead, the Reims prosecutor said on Thursday. This indictment for “murder by ascendant” is accompanied by a placement in pre-trial detention, specified the prosecutor Matthieu Bourrette, judging the facts “of a violence difficult to sustain”.

The autopsy of the 50-year-old victim revealed 33 wounds that could have come from knives and a hammer, which were “found on the spot”, he noted. “Some of the wounds, by their depth” may “suggest a desire for decapitation, which the defendant did not deny in his hearing in police custody”, added the prosecutor.

He had tried to tip his mother over the balcony before the facts

According to him, “a screw of almost 7 cm was found in one of the most important wounds, at the level of the neck”, which the suspect “admitted to having pressed himself” with a hammer. The young man, without activity, who recognizes “all the facts”, has already been sentenced in 2018 for domestic violence. A heavy consumer of alcohol and cannabis, he was not, however, under the influence of these products at the time of the events.

According to his relatives, “he spent many hours every day playing video games with some violence,” said the prosecutor. “He said he was very angry with his mother for over 20 years because he said when he was six she pushed him off a balcony and he was in a serious accident,” added the magistrate, an element which is not corroborated by any member of the family.

“The day before the events, at 5 a.m., he had had a very violent altercation with his mother for a reason so far ignored and had tried to knock her over the balcony,” according to the prosecutor. At the request of his mother, he had agreed “to be hospitalized freely” on the day of the events. He was not medically monitored and was not taking any treatment.
