18 months suspended prison sentence required against the former Elysée mission manager

The soap opera is almost coming to an end. The prosecution requested Thursday 18 months of suspended imprisonment and a 500 euro fine against the former Elysée representative Alexandre Benalla, in particular for the violence committed during the demonstration on May 1, 2018, at the origin of a resounding political scandal.

The prosecution asked that the ex-close collaborator of Emmanuel Macron also be sentenced for fraudulently using diplomatic and service passports, as well as for carrying a pistol without authorization in 2017.

Judging the “facts”

A one-year suspended sentence was required against Vincent Crase, ex-employee of En Marche! present with Alexandre Benalla during the Labor Day procession, as well as two and four months suspended sentence against two police officers from the Paris police headquarters, tried alongside them in another part of the case.

In a case “which has caused much ink to flow”, “already judged by the court of opinion”, the prosecutor Yves Badorc asked to return to the “facts” and not to their “comment”, appealing to the “Court sovereignty”. The magistrate asked for the conviction of Alexandre Benalla for having molested two demonstrators in the Jardin des Plantes and a couple in the Place de la Contrescarpe, as well as the conviction of Vincent Crase for violence against three of these people.
