DNA analysis confirmed what investigators already knew. The 17-year-old young woman arrested Thursday in the Sarah Bernhardt neighborhood is indeed the mother of the baby found alive in a trash can on Friday October 13. According to the Rennes public prosecutor, the young woman admitted that she had thrown her baby into a container near her home. The newly born child was rescued by the firefighters, alerted by a resident who had heard the infant’s cries. Expert reports revealed that the child had been born “a few hours” at the time of his discovery. Placed in police custody, the child’s father was released.
During her hearing, the young woman from Mayotte explained to investigators how her terrible day unfolded. “She knew she was pregnant for several months and admitted that after giving birth in her room, she had put the baby in a plastic bag then in a trash bag which she then put in the nearby trash container from his home,” said Philippe Astruc. The charge will be referred this Saturday. A judicial investigation for attempted assassination has been opened.
Still in care, little Noah Briac Alban suffers from a skull fracture “the origin of which cannot be established to date”, specifies the prosecution. It could be the consequence of the fall of several meters into the buried container which was almost empty that day. The child, a few days old, was the subject of a temporary placement order and will remain in care until likely placement in a nursery.
Father released in prosecution
Confused by his DNA, the father of the child was released after his police custody and is not currently the subject of any prosecution. “The investigations made it possible to verify that he was at his workplace at the time of the events,” explains Philippe Astruc. It is unknown whether he was aware of the young woman’s pregnancy. While in police custody, this 23-year-old man from Mayotte explained that he had had sexual relations with the young woman at the beginning of the year.
