17-year-old escapes from prison during medical transfer

A 17-year-old young person, detained at the Bonneville remand center in Haute-Savoie, took advantage of a medical transfer to escape on Sunday and had still not been found on Monday, we learned from the Annecy prosecutor’s office.

“This happened around 3:30 p.m. when we returned to the remand center. He had just been examined (in a hospital center) and had nothing. He took advantage of the opening of the sliding door of the prison vehicle so that the driver got in and fled,” explained public prosecutor Line Bonnet.

Around forty gendarmes still mobilized

The young defendant, in pre-trial detention for a week in the minors’ section for an armed robbery, “left on foot in a rural area, without an accomplice, not armed and partially restrained with one wrist handcuffed to the belt”, added the magistrate.

The fugitive “would be quite dangerous,” detailed a source close to the case. A “large gendarmerie system” was immediately put in place to find him with the support in particular of “a drone with thermal vision and sniffer dogs”, according to the prosecutor.

Around forty gendarmes were still mobilized on the ground on Monday, and a call for witnesses accompanied by a photo of the young man was published on social networks, the gendarmerie indicated.
