16 Vietnamese Trial for 50 Million Baht Crypto Theft and Kidnapping

The People’s Court of Ho Chi Minh City reportedly brought to court 16 Vietnamese nationals behind a $1.5 million crypto heist and kidnapping. Interestingly, two of the defendants are former police officers.

Local media reported the full story.start upIn 2018, when Le Duc Nguyen suggested Ho Ngoc Tai sell 1,000 BTC (valued at around $4.2 million at the time) to buy other cryptocurrencies.

However, the investment did not go as planned, leading Tai to believe that he was the victim of a crypto scam and that he could not accept the loss. So it went to a gang of 16 allies in May 2020 with the goal of stealing the property back.

Sixteen people (including two former police officers) tracked Le Duc Nguyen’s location using a GPS device mounted on his car.

during detention Nguyen was forced to transfer the original 1,000 BTC to Tai’s wallet, however, the gang found that Nguyen did not have the funds requested and only left $1.5 million worth of crypto. Dumped in the town of Thu Duc, about 15 kilometers north of Ho Chi Minh city center.
