Home staging or makeover of the bedroom: beware of confusion!
Home staging should not be confused with a classic makeover. Indeed, it is a question of giving a fresh look to the room to seduce potential buyers, and not to revamp the room so that it is in phase with your decorative desires.
Concretely, the objective is to highlight the strengths of the room, and to allow people who are going to visit it to project themselves there, by imagining the style of decoration that they like. It is therefore advisable to favor a sober aesthetic.
The objective being to sell your property advantageously, it is also interesting to establish a reasonable budget and stick to it. Rather than completely renewing furniture and decor, it is better to use what you currently have. You can also bet on recycling, even on upcycling, or on diverting elements – for example by transforming a side table or a stool into a bedside table.
When a property has several bedrooms, it is common for one of them to be larger than the others: the master bedroom. This is what attracts the most attention from future buyers, but it is interesting to apply the principles of home staging to the other bedrooms as well.
Home staging in the bedroom: where to start?
Whether it’s the home staging of the bathroom, the living room or the bedroom, the first step is always the same: we go around the room, carefully noting the elements likely to cause problems. In the bedroom, these are most often small problems of wear – for example the trace of a frame on the paint, holes in the wall or even damaged wallpaper.
Remember to pay attention to the floor, an essential element to create an intimate and warm bedroom. The parquet floor immediately creates a cozy atmosphere. To adopt it without breaking the bank and without embarking on large-scale work, choose vinyl siding.
Painting is the easiest way to refresh the bedroom. Ideally, we favor sober and soft colors: bright neutrals such as ecru or beige, soothing browns or even a powdery color. Trendy and soothing, blue is one of the colors that everyone loves. On the other hand, avoid vibrant or dynamic hues, which exert a powerful visual impact.
Should wallpaper be avoided in the bedroom during home staging? Not necessarily ! To highlight the volumes, it is allowed to cheat a little – for example by adopting vertical stripes to boost the height under the ceiling. On the other hand, it is better to avoid patterns with too marked a character, such as a jungle print.
As in the case of the home staging of the living room, one of the objectives is to enhance the volumes of the room. To do this, we start by decluttering the space, removing all superfluous elements. In other words, only the absolutely essential furniture is kept.
To sublimate the volumes and highlight the surface of the room, do not hesitate to change the location of the bed. For example, you can try this new trend of placing it in front of the window.
The minimalist bedroom is an option. However, if space permits, feel free to show what the possibilities are. For example, you can set up an office area or even install a dressing table.
Bedroom home staging: these little details that change everything
When it comes to home staging, sobriety is a key word. However, this does not in any way mean ignoring the decor! It is indeed very important that the room is intimate and welcoming.
In the bedroom, we focus above all on textiles: cushion covers, rugs, but also curtains, which dress the windows and protect from prying eyes. Sheer curtains are safe bets because they create an intimate atmosphere, while letting light through.
We also think about choosing the bed linen with care. Here again, sobriety and softness are in order! On the other hand, do not hesitate to add eiderdowns, duvets or plaids to create a more cocooning atmosphere.
In the bedroom more than elsewhere, we take care of the light. This starts with the choice of lighting fixtures. If you are afraid of making a bad taste, opt for the suspension in fabric or paper. In addition, think of the mirror – not only does it boost natural light, but it also visually enlarges the room.
The little detail that will transform your room into a suite worthy of a luxury hotel is the color. Bet on a unique shade, and introduce it in small touches. You can play around with decorative accessories – this is the easiest option. You can also have fun with the small furniture: pouf, armchair or bench, for example.
