Four-time Tour de France winner Chris Froome will not take part in the 110th Tour of France this year.
Four-time Tour de France winner Chris Froome will not take part in the 110th Tour of France this year.
His Israel-Premier Tech team announced the squad and did not take the 38-year-old Briton into account. “Of course I’m disappointed with this decision. The Tour de France has a very special place in my heart,” said the climbing specialist to the Global Cycling Network.
However, Froome gave no hints about the end of his career. “I respect the team’s decision and will take some time before refocusing on my goals later in the season and returning to the Tour de France in 2024,” said Froome. This season, the 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017 Tour winner has been struggling with health issues.
In 2019 he had a bad fall just before the tour, but last year he managed to finish third on the twelfth stage in Alpe d’Huez. At the beginning of the year, Froome’s cycling team received one of the two wildcards for the Tour of France this year.
The Israeli team in France was led by Canadian Michael Woods and Belgian Dylan Teuns. Rick Zabel was also not included.
