He had denied the allegations and pleaded for acquittal – but now Jérôme Boateng has been sentenced to a fine of millions. The Munich District Court saw it as proven that he had beaten his former partner.
The Munich District Court has found ex-national player Jérôme Boateng guilty of bodily harm to his former partner. It imposed a fine of 60 daily rates of 30,000 euros each – that is the highest possible daily rate. In total, he has to pay 1.8 million euros.
Punch in the face
The public prosecutor had demanded a suspended sentence of one and a half years – and a monetary requirement of 1.5 million euros. She accuses him of attacking his ex-girlfriend in July 2018 while on vacation in the Turks and Caicos Islands in the Caribbean. According to the indictment, he beat her, punched her, bit her in the head, threw her on the floor and insulted her violently. The allegations were of insult and assault.
In its judgment, however, the court only assumed “a punch” in the face.

The 33-year-old Jérôme Boateng is one of the most successful German footballers in recent years. With his long-time club Bayern Munich, he won several championship titles, the DFB Cup and in 2013 also the Champions League. With the national soccer team, Boateng became world champion in Brazil in 2014 and was voted Germany’s soccer player of the year in 2016.
In the summer he moved to the French club Olympique Lyon. He is a multimillionaire, which also explains the amount of the fine: According to the prosecutor, the required amount of money arises from the fact that she assumes that he earned 33,000 euros per day at FC Bayern Munich. She took that from media reports. Even after moving to Olympique Lyon, he still earns at least 20,000 euros a day.
An expert had supported the alleged victim with his assessment. “The findings that were documented here can largely be reconciled with the co-plaintiff’s description of the events,” said the doctor before the district court: A black eye that the woman suffered that evening was with her, but not with Boatengs To reconcile the description of the evening.
“Common Toxic Relationship”
Boateng had denied the allegations and stressed that he had never hit his ex-girlfriend. He only pushed her away when she attacked him. Then she stumbled. His defense attorney requested acquittal.
Public prosecutor Stefanie Eckert described the woman as a “victim of domestic violence”. However, not only she became a victim, but also Boateng – “a victim of their joint toxic relationship”. Boateng and his ex-girlfriend are also in an ongoing legal dispute over the right of residence of their daughters who currently live with Boateng. This is reported by the sports information service SID.
Outwardly, Boateng took the decision calmly. The verdict is not yet legally binding.
