The two teams agreed on at least 45 minutes of respectable football. Logically, the relegation-threatened Stuttgart team ended the non-attacking pact of the first half, but with limited success. The best chance was missed by Chris Führich, who shot past the empty goal from 30 meters. Mainz goalkeeper Robin Zentner and Stefan Bell had previously stood in each other’s way. Tiago Tomas missed the lead immediately after the break because Zentner made a strong save. Mainz were also dangerous, but Dominik Kohr’s header hit the post. The point is not enough for Stuttgart, they slip down to the relegation place due to the Berlin victory in Augsburg.
