The current case is called “Blinder Fleck” and is the second Zurich episode this year after “Seilschaften” by the authors Claudia Pütz and Karin Heberlein and director Tobias Ineichen. Two men have agreed to meet at a tranquil edge of the forest, one coming by bike, the other in an SUV with the family. Then three people are dead, the men and the wife in the car. Ella, the little daughter, survived. On the one hand, the case leads Grandjean and Ott into the business of drones and facial recognition software. And on the other hand, back to war crimes in Bosnia. The case is therefore by no means fundamentally lacking in relevance. The fact that it is missing is due to the credibility problem – not so much the plot, but the style. Speaking in drone terms: the altitude when it comes to emotional complexity is almost dangerously low.

Grandjean has to sit out for long periods because the traumatized Ella constantly clings to her. To emphasize how seriously Grandjean takes caring, this is shown over and over again. When she calls her friend Milan over, who sings “Blistaj, blistaj, zvijezdo mala” to Ella in Croatian, the child falls asleep so quickly after half a verse that the man with the number could appear. And so it goes, on the edge of a soap: In the showdown, someone runs across Zurich to exactly the place where the person has to be so that death overtakes them. Or someone can make it to the roof of a high-rise building from now on because evil never makes a living. Criticism like that is just no fun at all. Where did Grandjean and Ott go from 2020?
