Zlatan Ibrahimovic has retired. The Swedish royal family and the prime minister honor his lifetime achievement.

The “King’s farewell” (“Gazzetta dello Sport”) eclipsed the last day of the Italian league on Sunday. Zlatan Ibrahimovic (41) from AC Milan ended his great career at the age of 41. Now even the Swedish royal family has bowed to the footballer.

“We would like to thank Zlatan Ibrahimovic for everything he has done for Swedish football and for Sweden,” the official said in a post Instagram accounts the royals. “One of the greatest sports careers of all time. We are filled with admiration and gratitude.”

The text is signed by Crown Princess Victoria (45) and her husband Daniel (49). The royal couple also posted a picture of their children. Daughter Estelle (11) and son Oscar (7) pose in Milan shirts, of course with Ibrahimovic’s number 11 on the back.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic was born in Malmö in October 1981 to his parents from the former Yugoslavia. He managed a world career, he played for a number of top clubs such as Inter Milan, Juventus Turin and FC Barcelona.

“Most important Swede of the millennium”

The Swedish sports journalist Erik Niva (44) described Ibrahimovic at the end of his career not only as the greatest footballer in his country, but also as “the most important Swede of this millennium”.

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (59) also acknowledged the importance of the Swedish national team’s record goalscorer beyond football. “A Swedish pride. A role model and an inspiration to many,” he wrote Instagram.
