Warning of counteroffensive: Zelensky rejects ceasefire in Ukraine war

Update from January 11th, 9:20 p.m: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky calls to avoid a freeze in the war so that Russia does not have the opportunity to prepare a “powerful counteroffensive.” “We have to prevent the conflict from freezing. We cannot allow Russia to prepare for a powerful counteroffensive in a year, two years, three years or five years. We cannot allow that,” Zelensky said at a press conference in Riga Ukrainian Pravda reported.

It is necessary to end the war before this scenario can occur. Zelensky pointed out that if the war were to freeze, sanctions would ease over time and new rhetoric would emerge: “What is the purpose of a new sanctions package if there are no hostilities?” Zelensky warned that Russia was preparing for revenge and Ukraine wants to prevent this.

Update from January 11th, 6:28 p.m: The commander of the Ukrainian ground forces, Oleksandr, warns against a resumption of the Russian offensive on the Sivershchyna front. The Russian armed forces would therefore move the Storm-Z units (punitive units of the Russian military) and form assault companies. Syrskyi also said that the situation on the Eastern Front remains difficult. Moscow is continuing its offensive on the Kupyansk, Lyman and Bakhmut fronts. Above all, they would try to drive Ukrainian units out of the Kupyansk Forest and take Synkivka. The aim is a blockade of Kupyansk.
