President Volodimir Zelensky is celebrated as a star guest in Davos. But he wants more than applause. Ukraine needs weapons and money to defend itself, according to his well-known message. But one thing, he makes clear, is that his country needs much more now.
The colors of the Swiss municipality of Davos have been blue and yellow for centuries. Next to the streets there are steles that rise out of the snow in blue and yellow. The lines of the minibuses that drive guests to the World Economic Forum (WEF) through Davos are blue and yellow. The anti-ice grit is stored in metal containers painted blue on top and yellow on the bottom – like the flag of Ukraine. It’s just a coincidence. But it seems as if the venue for this powerful conference to welcome Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was specially dressed in the guest’s national colors.
