There was a record-breaking fire brigade operation in the north today. Thousands of hoses were laid for this purpose. But it didn’t burn.

Numerous youth fire departments in Schleswig-Holstein have pumped water through thousands of hoses for more than 60 kilometers and, according to their own statements, have set a world record.

At 11:59 a.m. the water was on the premises of the medical and security technology group Drägerwerk Lübeck arrived, said a spokeswoman for the state fire brigade association. It comes from the beginning of the Elbe-Lübeck Canal in Lauenburg in the south of the state.

A line with a length of 64.3 kilometers was laid using 3,217 hoses. The first youth fire departments started working at 8 a.m. in the morning. A total of 114 youth fire brigades took part. 1986 people helped. 141 pumps were in use.

The campaign took place as part of the 150th anniversary of the Schleswig-Holstein State Fire Brigade Association. According to the spokeswoman, the previous world record came from South Tyrol and, at around 63.2 kilometers, is only just below the value now achieved. According to previous information, the record will be recorded in the book of world records by the Record Institute for Germany (RID).
