Youth book “All Colors Gray” by Martin Schäuble: Review – Culture

The novel “All Colors Gray” is based on a true story: A 16-year-old – in the novel his name is Paul – takes his own life. It was only diagnosed late that he suffered from severe depression and that he also had Asperger’s syndrome. For his book, the journalist and author Martin Schäuble spoke to people who were close to Paul. He creates a portrait of this boy in direct, honest words. “For me,” says Schäuble, “Paul is a curious, incredibly intelligent, very individual person who has many questions, a huge sense of humor and special interests, but who is also mentally ill at the same time.” The goal: to finally talk openly about mental illnesses.
